Various credit bureaus collect information on bill payments, such as any loan defaults, including Court Judgements, how much credit you may have across your mortgage and credit cards, or the time it takes you to pay your bills in full or in part.

  • By paying your account on time and keeping them up to date.
  • Any outstanding defaults will stay on your file for up to five years from the time the default was placed. Paying any defaults will reduce the negative impact on your credit score and future credit applications.

The Credit Reporting Privacy Code 2020 provides you with the right to access any data that a credit agency might hold on you. You have the right to request a correction.

Firstly, write to the credit reporting company. If you do not receive satisfaction you can make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz.
